Monogramming Tips:

The most conventional monogram consists of three letters: a larger letter in the center flanked by two smaller letters, one on either side. Traditionally, the larger center letter is for the last name, the smaller letter on the left is for the first name, and the smaller letter on the right is for the middle name (or maiden name if the woman is married).

An example of a traditional monogram: Anna Elizabeth Gray would be AGE.

Another traditional option is a horizontal monogram where all the letters are the same size and appear in the same order as the actual name (first, middle, then last).

An example of a horizontal monogram: Richard Andrew Smith would be RAS.

For a coupleʼs monogram, traditionally the womanʼs first letter of her first name goes on the left, the first letter of the married last name goes in the center (larger), and the first letter of the manʼs first name goes on the right.

An example is: Caroline Grace Jones marries William Robert Baker, their monogram would be CBW. If the couple prefers a horizontal monogram instead, it would be CWB.

A single letter monogram is another style that is commonly used. It can either be the first initial of the first name or the first initial of the last name.
